Seven year itch – not a chance happy anniversary you beauty.

Seven year itch – not a chance happy anniversary you beauty.

It was back in 1955 when the American romantic comedy The Seven Year Itch with Marilyn Monroe was released. That in turn led to the super iconic picture of Monroe with her white dress being blown upwards while she stood  on top of a subway grate.

Since then the term seven year itch is often quoted/believed to have some credence when applied to a long term relationship with the implication that interest declines around that time. Some folk say that problems come to the surface around about that time – with less affection being shown along with an overall dissatisfaction.

I’m not at all sure how valid that assertion is – it wasn’t the case in my marriage and it most certainly hasn’t been the case with another beauty that has shared a 7th anniversary with me.

Still crazy after all these years

It was back in August 2017 when I bought my fabulous BMW RnineT from the Williams Motorrad dealership in Manchester. Over the years I have written numerous posts that have featured the bike.

The first time I wrote about it was at the end of August 2017 when I was about to trade my superb Kawasaki Z1000SX.  My first post once I had the bike soon followed, you can read that at this link.

Since that first ride the bike has served me well. I’ve made a few trips to Scotland and to Wales along with plenty ‘local’ rides – Cheshire, Shropshire, North Wales etc. I also had a brilliant road trip on when I headed off  Spain and Portugal in 2018.

And the best bike for touring is…

I’ve said so many times over the years that the best bike for touring is always the one that you have.  It was a drag heading down to Plymouth for the ferry to Santander, pretty much as it would be on any naked bike when of necessity the motorways have to be taken.

But once off the boat a couple of weeks with no motorways, autopistas or autoestradas really did demonstrate what a fabulous and suitable bike the RnineT is to be on through the Picos and the fabulous mountains and roads of Portugal. There’s a review of the bike that I wrote for The Bike Market back in 2018 and that I reposted at this link in 2023..

Where did the time go

But change really is the law of life and time really doesn’t stand still.

Since I bought the RnineT – the Kawasaki Vulcan has been sold – that was another bike that my wife and I also made a fabulous trip on in Spain and Portugal.

The Vulcan was sold and replaced by a BMW F800R which did a couple of Scotland trips and about four Ireland trips.

The F800 was sold and replaced by a BMW F900XR SE, that already has a European trip, Scotland trip, Ireland trip clocked up and in the next few weeks will carry me off on another European adventure.

The only constant in the garage

The only bike that was here before the RnineT and that is still here is the beautiful Italian Moto Guzzi V7 Cafe. There’s a picture below, and I’ll make sure I do a suitable picture post of that bike soon, although here’s the last time I posted about the Moto Guzzi.

Picture post – timeless and elegant

Beauty as ever really is in the eye of the beholder – but I really do think there is something quite exciting and brutal but at the same time elegant in the simplicity of design of this 2016 variant of the iconic Boxer twin.
