A short ride on the Honda CMX to Stretton Water Mill in Cheshire

Sometimes a short ride is enough. Whilst big trips like my recent trips to the Scottish Highlands are deeply satisfying short trips can tick the ‘need to ride’ box as well.

Last week I headed out on the CMX on some pretty well ridden roads. Roads that I have done hundreds if not thousands of times over the years on all sorts of bikes. This time I headed out in fine weather into Cheshire and onto the Stretton Water Mill.

Heading for the mill

Heading for the mill was only to reach a turning point, rather than a destination. It wasn’t a case of me actually visiting the place.

Having said that it really does seem quite an interesting place and did make me thing I should return with my wife at some point to check it out.

A round trip of 100 or so miles

Mileage wise it was about 50 miles or so each way. My route back was slightly different as I headed to the J&S motorcycle store in Northwich for refreshments which comprised a coffee and a very decent slice of almond tart.

An old corn mill

The water mills website describes it as ‘one of the country’s best preserved demonstration water powered corn mills’. The site consists of the working mill, an old 19th century stable which houses an exhibition, and pleasant grounds with a picnic area. Access to the upper floor of the mill has been greatly improved and the new landscaping and pathways offer further idyllic views of the pond and the mill buildings, making the most of this charming rural setting.

The water mill picture (above) is from the official website and not one of mine.
