BMW RnineT – daffodils and a boxer twin, spring has arrived.
Spring is here and fresh from the annual MoT, service and new front tyre I was out on my magnificent BMW RnineT.
In my last post I wrote about my RnineT being in at MW Motorcyles for its service. This in turn meant the bike was good for the road.
The weather on Friday was decent enough for a ride and I intended to head out on the Moto Guzzi V7, which I had last ridden about two weeks ago.
The truth is that …
In 2021 GQ magazine said : …the truth is that the R nineT is one of the all-time greats. Perfectly judged, bucket loads of character, a modern yet timeless design – and it’s playing a game that almost no one else is. The thing that’ll get you every time is that the only thing that stands between you and going out for a ride is finding your jacket and keys. Any excuse will do.
Can you hear me calling …
My RnineT was still SORN from the winter lay off and I had planned to tax it from the start of April which was why I had initially intended to head off on the V7. But as I had my morning coffee the call of the BMW over the Moto Guzzi was too much. I tend to agree with the GQ article and with the call of the BMW being so strong I went online, taxed the bike and was on the road a little before 08:30. The weather was dry, reasonably bright and the temperature was acceptable. I headed out through Cheshire and towards Wrexham did about 130miles or so and all in all had a fine mornings ride.
I stopped for coffee near the Broxton roundabout – scroll on and see the images in Picture set two.

Picture set two – Broxton Food Bar
I’ve lost count of the number of times I have stopped here over the years.
For as long as I can recall it was always known as the Broxton Truck Stop and Picnic Area and has always been a popular stop off for bikers. Serving good value coffee and plain roadside van type food it’s a popular stop. Additionally, and for a good number of years it had a reputation/association that some folk described as seedy, that’s not something I will pass judgement on though – but you can read a little more about that at this link.
Something of an upgrade
My stop at Broxton on this ride was my first time there since last year.
It’s fair to say the site has changed. It’s now called the Broxton Food Bar with what looks like quite an extended menu and a revised price list. At £2.00 for a coffee and £1.50 for a large Bakewell Tart it remains great value.
I can’t really comment on the other products as I rarely have anything else there other than every now and again I may indulge in a sausage barm cake. Any which way it’s always a reasonable place to stop.
There was also some work going on at the end of the car park with diggers doing some sort of excavation – although I have no idea what for.
As decent a roadside stop as it is – there is some room for improvement with the seating – some of it is literally falling apart. But perhaps improvements are planned. I’ll let you know next time I stop there.
