CMX 1100 – a ride through green and pleasant land to Arnside

CMX 1100 ride through green and pleasant land to Arnside

I set off early on Sunday morning on this CMX 1100 ride with only a loose plan of where I wanted to go. The change in weather had drawn me in for a morning ride and saw me head through green and pleasant land to Arnside.

Heading that way was more or less the opposite direction from the previous ride in Derbyshire,

My destination or turning point for the ride was the small village of Arnside in Cumbria. It’s a small place with a population of around 2,500 or so and lies on the shores of Morecambe Bay about 11 miles or so from the market town of Kendal.

It’s a good stop off with a few cafe’s and places to get a drink or a bite to eat.

I have been in that area quite a few times before on my bike and also with my wife. There’s a post here from when my wife and I visited the nearby and excellent RSPB reserve at Leighton Moss.

No plan and no rush on this CMX 1100 ride

I had no detailed plan and was in no rush.

I was just looking forward to being on my bike, enjoying the empty roads and feeling the freshness of the cool morning air.

Good roads and a good bike

It’s a good run in from North Yorkshire and the ride takes you along quiet country lanes. The lanes are ideal for the CMX 1100 with its low revving torquey engine.

The tide was out as I arrived. The bay was on my right hand side and the rail viaduct stretched right across the bay.

After a short stop, I moved on, heading south along narrow woodland roads and steady hills before the views opened up again as I headed towards Carnforth and Lancaster. .

Expectations met on the CMX 1100 ride

Arnside works quite well as a destination for a quiet northern loop, good roads and a good bike to ride them on.

A 170 miles or so later and my expectations had been met. All in all a decent way to spend a Sunday morning.
