BMW RnineT fine day for a ride, coffee, sunshine & 200 miles
I had been so close to heading to Ireland last week. I had provisionally identified accommodation for a couple of nights in the coastal town of Killrush in County Clare and then a couple of nights in Bantry down in Cork.
The ferry prices are reasonable for a short break and I was really looking forward to a few days away. But then just like last year, the weather continues to get in the way. The forecast looked pretty dismal and so I decided against going. Another block in the road to this years biking … surely this weather has to change soon?
This time last year
It’s a year since I posted about Plan B – that was when I cancelled my bookings for the Ireland/Scotland trip and decided to head for warm weather and sunshine in Spain and Portugal.
And how times flies – a year since that cancelled trip and two years since I did a full ‘circuit’ of the Emerald Isle.
There seems to be some similarities to last year – both in terms of the weather and some of my biking plans. I’m heading for those warm Spanish and Portuguese roads again fairly soon. Whilst there’s never any guarantee about the weather – heading that way certainly reduces the risk of rainfall.
If this year’s trip is as good as last years then it will do for me and scratch that biking itch.
Sunny day
But despite the outlook for the next few days the weather on Friday was superb. I decided I would use the RnineT and initially out towards Alderley Edge.
I turned for Holmes Chapel, then towards Northwich, Llangollen, Horshoe Pass, Tyn-y-Cefn, Corwen, Northwich (again) and then home – with a stop at Broxton for coffee on the outbound and homeward journey. All in all I did a shade less than 200 miles and had a fine day.
Included in the pictures
There’s a mix of pictures in the picture gallery from my day’s ride. I’d like to say there’s some sort of theme – but there just isn’t. I headed off without a plan and the pictures probably pretty much reflect the randomness of my day.
Some of these include some aerial shots of Jodrell Bank, a very decent Bentley that was parked up at the coffee stop (driven by a couple of Bentley employees rather than a private owner) and also a few at the entrance to Peckforton Castle.
