Summer arrived again just for one day – so out on the RnineT
Summer 2024 already seems to have a similar feel to summer 2023. Seemingly endless rain day after day is really making biking more miss than hit.
You might recall that last year (around about this time) I cancelled my planned trip to Ireland and Scotland.
That cancellation was as a direct result of the dismal weather. Although I had managed a decent break in Ireland the month before that cancellation, when I had headed over to the Emerald Isle on a BMW F800R.
I’ll take a break when I can
This year just feels like it’s going the same way. If the weather improves for long enough I’ll probably take a break in the UK, but having said that even if it doesn’t, like last year I’m planning on heading for some Spanish and Portuguese sunshine later this year.
Earlier this week amidst days of grey skies and high amounts of rainfall – the weather changed. The arrival of blue skies along with decent temperatures (that reached about 23c) had me rolling one of the bikes from the garage.
Not a long ride but
On this occasion I took the BMW RnineT. I headed out on some Cheshire back roads towards Alderley Edge, Holmes Chappel and towards Northwich. A stop at the J&S store and then on down past Oulton Park and towards the small Cheshire village of Bunbury (south of Tarpoley and north west of Nantwich).
My reason for heading there was because I knew there to be a fine stop for coffee and cake (Tillys Coffee Shop) and a place I have called at a couple of times before, once on my bike and once in the car with my wife.
Picture set one
There are some pictures here taken outside the J&S Northwich store.
The Honda 500 Four looked a stunner and there was a superb Suzuki GSX 1400 which was in magnificent condition. The GSX 1400 is a bike I have always liked, but although I have had plenty of Suzuki’s I never owned that model.
The black Agusta Bruttale in the picture set is a good looking bike, although a friend of mine once had the same bike in white which I think I preferred to the black model in the photo set below.

Picture set two – Moto Guzzi V100
The pictures below were also taken at the J&S store in Northwich – but as the Moto Guzzi V100 isn’t a bike that is commonplace I thought it merited a separate picture set. I thought this Mandello version of the V100 looked superb.
I appreciate the match between the engine casing, decals and wheels but I’m not completely sold on the gold coloured wheels and think perhaps a plain black might look better.
Not everyones cup of tea
I can imagine the styling of this Moto Guzzi isn’t to everyone’s taste and so not everyone’s cup of tea – but I’d have one of these in the garage tomorrow if circumstances permitted.

Picture set three – Tillys
Good lemon cake, good coffee, good service and all enjoyed in the Cheshire sunshine – what’s not to like?
After leaving Tilly’s I stopped for a couple of pictures outside the old red phone box in Eaton (I think) and then finished off the pictures with a couple of ‘garage snaps’ once I was home.
Most of the pictures here were taken at Tillys Coffee Shop in Bunbury. Click any image to open the picture set that can then be scrolled or clicked through.
