Cheshire castle a Horseshoe and a tablecloth for bikers

Last time out on the CMX 1100 I had headed on a short ride of 70 or so miles in Cheshire. The time before that had been into Wales and a ride around 170 or so miles.

With the Honda being a new bike I need to have the initial service done around the 600 mile mark. Had the weather been better I would have expected to have had those miles racked up much much sooner.

A bright start and clear roads set the scene for my ride.

I made a 170‑mile loop taking in Alderley Edge, Jodrell Bank, Llangollen, and the spectacular Horseshoe Pass.

What began as a steady run through Cheshire quickly opened up into one of those really enjoyable North Wales routes with a decent mix of back roads, great scenery, and a favourite café stop along the way.

It turned into another genuinely enjoyable day out on the bike, with plenty of variety and a route worth sharing.

Route

From home, I headed out towards Alderley Edge, down Ryleys Lane towards Chelford and the iconic Jodrell Bank before heading through Holmes Chapel.

It felt like a pretty relaxed but scenic motorcycle ride.

From there, I took the quiet back roads towards Holt and Cross Lanes, eventually arriving in the centre of Llangollen.

After crossing the river and joining the A5 towards Corwen, I made a quick stop at the Toll Gate Café for a proper sausage sandwich and coffee which was a welcome mid ride break.

Once refuelled, I carried on towards Bryneglwys, then climbed up and over the Horseshoe Pass, one of North Wales’ most enjoyable riding roads, before heading home via Whitchurch and the always pleasant A49.

All in all, it was another very enjoyable 170‑mile motorcycle ride, taking in great roads, great scenery, and a few favourite stops along the way.

Service due

The required number of miles are now logged and the bike is booked in for it’s initial service. After that I’ll have the flexibility to take a trip at short notice. I’ll keep an eye on the weather and head off for a more substantial bike trip when I can. It feels pretty much overdue.

Although I still have some issues to resolve and finalise with luggage arrangements for the bike – but that’s for another post, it’s not been at all straightforward.
