Motorbikes in the garage and waiting for the better weather

What else is there to say my bikes are in the garage and I’m waiting for some better weather. I mentioned in my last post about the notion of fair weather biking – but these days even the thought of getting on my bike to go out on a cold winters days is enough to make me feel cold to the bones.

Garage time

So although not on the road I have spent some time with the bikes over the last few days in the relative comfort of my garage. In an ideal world I would love a bigger garage.  Moving the bikes round is a bit of a chore especially when it comes to moving the Clarke Motorcycle Lift.

Sometimes bigger really is better

A bigger garage would allow the lift to be permanently left in one place.  As it is I drag it to the middle of the garage and tuck the other two bikes close together. Although the lift is on heavy duty castors my uneven garage floor (rippled concrete) makes it hard work.

I suppose I could resolve that by laying screed but the thought of emptying stuff from the garage, including where I would put my bikes in the meantime makes my head hurt!

Of course selling a couple of the bikes would free up space … but that’s just a silly option.

It didn’t need a clean but…

Anyway moving on from the chore of shifting the bikes around, the first up for a check over and clean was the BMW F900 XR. Actually saying I gave it a clean is a probably a bit of an overstatement – it’s been under dust covers since November. And saying dust covers is also something of an overstatement – the reality is it’s been under old sheets and quilt covers – but I think they do the same job, and the bike wasn’t dusty and it didn’t need a clean but ….

Bottom line is

The F900 is in good order and ready for the ‘biking season’. It’s the bike I expect to be doing the most miles on this year – when I head off to find good roads and weather that as a minimum at least match last years road trip to Spain and Portugal.
