Well I was at The Etiihad last night for the first home game of the season to watch City play Liverpool. It was very much business as usual for City and they were able to follow-up last weeks fine away win at Newcastle with a convincing and comfortable 3-1 win last night. It goes without saying that Liverpool are a decent team but in reality provided little threat to City throughout most of the game.
Aside from the actual football it was pretty poor weather wise for an August evening and like much of the rest of the country Manchester wasn’t spared the rain – but we missed the worst of it as we walked to and from the car. The work to increase the capacity of the stadium is now well under way and it was clear on entering the ground last night that there has been a lot of activity over the close season. It’s great to see the work going on, but it does come with mixed feelings for me as I’m pretty sure that come next season we will move away from the seats that we have had from day one of City’s tenure at the stadium – but that’s for another day. We are back at The Etihad on Saturday for the game against Stoke.
A very comfortable start to the season.
The pictures made me think back to the massive development we saw at maine Road – the Gene Kelly stand!
