Some nice family moments captured on film there Tony…Trust you are keeping hard copy albums…our four still enjoy thumbing through the 20 odd albums I made over the last 18 years (with notes at the time)…
No we don’t keep hard copies – simply not possible/practical. I could be described as a fairly prolific picture taker. We stopped using albums once digital was around really – so have somewhere in the order of around 5,000 plus prints – many of which are scanned and secured and not all in albums either. Maybe around 40 or so albums. In terms of digital pictures probably in the order of 50,000 to 60,000 or so, that doesn’t include my bike pix, which I guess are maybe the same again. Kept on a couple of PCs plus backed up onto shared network drive.
Typical return from a bike trip is around 600/700 pix or so minimum for each week away – and from hols depending where we have been it would be a couple of thousand for a two week hol – always worked on the basis of taking plenty and then just selecting the best
Pix like the ones in that blog I don’t even bother downloading as they are just ‘phone pix that auto upload to the cloud via the wireless and last time I looked on there I think it was around 3,000 in the cloud – so you see it’s not really practical.
Additionally I make DVDs from our hol’s and bike trips – all the guys on the bike trips send me their pix and video on USB or disc and then I knock then into DVDs. There is also normally hours of on-board footage which tends to get whittled down to maybe 8 to 10 mins per hour of DVD, but it vairies depending on the trip etc.
The other thing is that I tend to share pictures pretty much instantly with family by email.
Sorry for lengthy reply …
