Alpinestars, a beanie and a tenuous link for this blog post.

Writing a blog post about a beanie hat might seem like an act of desperation … and I suppose it is. But there is a reason for it.

It’s now coming up to 18 weeks since I had an accident on my BMW RnineT. If you missed the headline post you can check it out at this link.

Repairs

The BMW couldn’t be repaired and was ‘written off’ by the insurance company.

Thankfully I can be repaired, and although perhaps not to as ‘good as new’  hopefully to a condition that functions enough to get back on a bike next year.

The NHS have been doing a grand job and working hard to sort out my repairs. Not everything has gone quite to plan and I may well be back in the NHS ‘workshop’ later this year.

I wish it had been different

Had events of 1st June not happened and things turned out differently it would have been this week the F900 would have been looking well used and needing a big clean after another adventure.

I would have just returned from the best part of three weeks on the Iberian Peninsular

That’s the part of Europe pretty much separated from the main land mass by the Pyrenees.  You can read about last years trip at this link.

I would also have been starting to sift through a couple of thousand pictures and starting to think about writing up a series of blog posts. I really do wish the 1st of June had been different.

It is what it is and worse things happen at sea

But I suppose it wasn’t meant to be. The RnineT has gone, along with what would probably have been another fabulous experience through Spain and Portugal.

My departed Mum would have probably quoted that old 19th century proverb and said ‘well there’s worse things happen at sea’  She would have of course have been quite right.

Sounds and smells

So although the bike has gone I’m still here and on the road to recovery.

Of necessity and practical reality my biking activity has been just about zero – other than reading and looking at plenty of bike related You Tube content.

Although I’ve extended my bike related activity by entering the garage a couple of times and starting the engines of the F900 and Moto Guzzi V7. The sounds and smells are an absolute joy  – especially the bark from the exhausts of the beautiful  Guzzi V7.

A substitute of sorts

So to round off with the inspiration for this post – I’ve spent some money on a bike related item.

It’s an Alpinestars beanie hat and here’s a picture of this gem of a hat.

I’m some way off getting back on a bike and I expect the hat more is likely to get used on a hospital visit than whilst on a bike trip.

To continue the high octane/thrill a minute nature of my life I may even write another post featuring other bike related hats in the garage.

And yes I know you can’t wait for it.
