The RnineT has gone – and it wasn’t meant to end like this.

Last time I posted

Last time I posted was in early May after I had returned from another fantastic bike trip to Scotland.

If you read that last post you’ll know the bike I used on that trip was my BMW F900 XR.

Had things gone to plan, my next scheduled trip on the F900 was to be for the best part of three weeks in September when I planned to make another Iberian road trip, taking in favourite places and roads in Spain and Portugal.

There was also the possibility, as always at this time of year for making a short trip – perhaps to Scotland or Ireland.

It wasn’t the best of days for me

In the first of a series of sliding door moments, after waking up to fine blue skies I decided my next ride would be on the RnineT on Sunday 1st June.

Unfortunately the sliding door moments conspired against me and I was involved in a significant road traffic accident.

The reality is that after the events of that day it’s very very unlikely I will be on any bike at any time this year.

The accident wasn’t my fault and the third party has accepted liability.

I felt I should post an update, as there isn’t going to be anything like my normal content and posts at this time of year.

I won’t overdo the detail

In the interest of not ‘oversharing’ personal information I won’t bother with the detail or with an over medicalised account.

In simple terms the 1st of June wasn’t the best of days for me. But I survived the day, albeit at the expense of ending up with a pretty significant injury.

My left knee was badly fractured and separated. The impact of that injury will be with me for ever.

It’s only now a month after the accident, that I can manage to sit for a short time at the PC to write this update.

On the road to recovery

Obviously the fact I’m writing this post means I’m here to tell the tale.

Some hospital time and surgical time have set me on the road to recovery. The doctors and staff at Tameside Hospital were fantastic.

Since getting home my wife has taken over where the medical staff left off. I couldn’t ask to have been looked after any better, and I am on the road to recovery.

The RnineT has gone – and it wasn’t meant to end like this.

Sadly though my magnificent and beloved BMW RnineT has been deemed to be beyond economical repair.

That has come as a real blow to me.

The RnineT wasn’t a bike I thought I would part with anytime soon. I had never thought my time with this bike would end like this.

I really did love this bike.

But what’s done is done and I’m doing my best to put the disappointment behind me. It’s time to look ahead to better days.

I’ll post again as and when I can and maybe I’ll do a retrospective look back at my time with the RnineT.
