A couple of weeks ago my grandchildren were given an old garden bench by neighbours of my daughter. The bench was aged and tired and more than showed the signs of it’s earlier life.
But it did look like it was well worth spending an hour or two on, so last week I collected it and set to work.
My nephew Andy helped with some of the sanding of the wood, a couple of small pieces were beyond saving so replacement pieces were cut from some wood out of my ‘scrap wood’ tub.
The bench has an inset cast iron panel so that was brushed down and washed off before applying some paints to bring the panel to life.
Overall the bench has come up well and is now back in use by my grandchildren and in fact yesterday saw some action as it made for perfect seating for strawberries and cream after a decent Saturday BBQ.
